Book Reports
Book reports will be required once every two weeks. Students will be notified of due dates weeks in advance. New York State wants students to read up to 25 books in a year by the time they are in middle school. Studies have shown that reading ability directly affects all other subjects in school. More and more science and math exams are starting to require verbal explanations of why the math solution is correct. Reading is part of developing powerful language.
7th grade books
Must be atleast 60 pages long. The book report must be a page and a half. It must include main characters, conflict and how that character overcomes their conflict. A complete description of plot must be included as well
8th grade books
Must be atleast 100 pages long. The book report must be a page and a half. Typed reports must be the same length, double spaced and up to 14 point font. The type of font must be regular type, not anything fancy. Try to stick to Currier new or Times New Roman.
Grades will be determined by the student's ability to describe how the character overcomes conflict, include a theme of the novel and describe the the flow of the plot. In reading the report I should have a strong knowedge of the character, understand what skills get them through the problem and know what a major lesson from the story is. I should walk away feeling like it's a book I would want to read.
