Creating a new page

Firstly, Sign In to the site.
A new page can be created in any existing page.
A good place to try this out is in the SandBox? page.
Open the SandBox? page, in the edit mode, in another browser window so you can continue to view these instructions.
The very most important thing when creating a new page is to name it with at least 2 words.
The 2 words must both start with a capital letter and have no space between them.
For example: Sand Box becomes SandBox?. or Text Formatting Rules becomes TextFormattingRules.
If the page does not exist then you will see a question mark displayed at the end of the word like this, ThisPageDoesNotExistYet?
To confirm that you want the page created click the question mark. The page will then be created and you will be taken to that page with the generic text inserted at the beginning Describe This Page Does Not Exist Yet here which you can delete and enter your own text.

Linking to a page you have created or a page on another site altogether.

Dont forget to view this page in the edit mode.
You've got options!
To simply link to another page in the JPS site use the name of the page exactly as it is spelled, for example SandBox? or TestPage?. (If the page already exists and you have spelled it correctly then when you either preview or save, the text will appear in orange.)

Alternatively, if you want your page links to diplay with spaces, you can link to the Sand Box? like this.
or you can link like this: This is a link to a demo page?
or you can link to an external page by simply writing the full url address: httphttp://bigsplat.net
or you can use different httptext to get to bigsplat like this.

Note to avoid Julie McKnight being a link to a new page use "!" in front of McKnight and un-check the box in the edit window Use new markup.

More text formatting examples can be viewed at the TestPage?

Emphasis

  • Use doubled single-quotes ('') for emphasis (usually italics)
  • Use doubled underscores (__) for strong emphasis (usually bold)
  • Mix them at will: bold italics
  • Emphasis can be used multiple times within a line, but cannot cross line boundaries:

''this will not work''

Paragraphs

  • Don't indent paragraphs
  • Words wrap and fill as needed
  • Use blank lines as separators
  • Four or more minus signs make a horizontal rule
  • groups of 3 %%% makes a linebreak(s) (in headings and lists too)

Lists

  • asterisk for first level
    • asterisk-asterisk for second level, etc.
  • Use * for bullet lists, # for numbered lists (mix at will)
  • semicolon-term-colon-definition for definition lists:
term here
definition here, as in the <DL><DT><DD> list
  • One line for each item
  • Other leading whitespace signals preformatted text, changes font.

Headings

  • '!' at the start of a line makes a small heading
  • '!!' at the start of a line makes a medium heading
  • '!!!' at the start of a line makes a large heading

Fonts

  • Indent with one or more spaces to use a monospace font:
 This is in monospace

This is not

Indented Paragraphs

  • semicolon-colon -- works like <BLOCKQUOTE>
this is an indented block of text
