Stones and Bones

In an effort to learn more about the history of Jamestown, New York, several social studies teachers from Jamestown Public Schools hatched a scheme in which we’d take volunteers to a local cemetery in order to patch together a history of our town.  In doing so, the group would take photographs of gravestones, do rubbings, research the meanings of cemetery iconography, research families at our local history museum, and put together a website to house and display our discoveries.  This is an ongoing project that began in fall of 2006.
