According to the Commissioner's Regulations and Regents Policy, all secondary schools are expected to incorporate the HIV/AIDS intructional program into the required health education program. No student can be required to receive instruction concerning the methods of prevention of HIV/AIDS if the parent or legal guardian of the student wishes to exempt him/her from that portion of HIV/AIDS instruction.To qualify for an exemption, the parent or legal guardian must file with the school principal a written request for an exemption and assure that the student will receive this instruction at home.
