Special Projects is dedicated to researching, analyzing and implementing diverse projects related to emerging district initiatives. During the past two years, a few of the projects and research reports completed have been related to:

  • Actual and Projected District Demographics

  • The Technology Academy

  • An Annual Analysis of District Grants

  • The Impact of the No Child Left Behind Act on Paraprofessional Staff

  • Technology in the Classroom

  • Obtaining a Teaching American History Grant through the U.S. Department of Education

  • Development of a related web site for United States History Teachers
    httphttp://www.teachersdiscoveringhistoryashistorians.com

  • Educational Opportunities available through partnerships with the University at Buffalo, Jamestown Community College, The Robert H. Jackson Center, Chautauqua Institution, Erie 2 BOCES and other institutions.

Distance Learning is a significant initiative under the heading of Special Projects. One state of the art distance learning/computer lab has been constructed at Jamestown High School. A second room is presently under construction in the new Technology Academy.

This emerging educational concept presently enables the Jamestown Public Schools to offer:

  • A Masters Degree in Education, leading to permanent certification, available through the University at Buffalo. All classes are offered at the JHS Distance Learning Room, so teachers and community members may complete their degree without driving to Buffalo. For more information please visit:

  • Videoconference/Virtual Tour learning opportunities for staff and students. This year we have virtually visited museums, zoos, ocean institutes, NASA, The Library of Congress and various other locations. The Nassua County BOCES has created an exceptional guide to these exciting opportunities and you may review it at:

  • Undergraduate level elective courses for students in their senior year. Presently, United States History 153 and 154 is taught to Jamestown and Westfield students. Each course carries three credits from Jamestown Community College.
