Health Department

Health education is required at the elementary, middle and high school level. There are three NYS standards that must be met at each level. Standard 1Personal Health and Fitness, requires students to understand human growth and development and recognize the relationship between behaviors and healthy development. They learn ways to promote health and prevent disease and demonstrate and practice positive health behaviors. Standard 2A Safe and Healthy Environment, allows elementary student to demonstrate personally and socially responsible behaviors. They learn to care for and respect themselves and others. Elementary students learn through Standard 3Resource Management, the influences of culture, media, and technology in making decisions about personal and community issues. They learn about and use valid health information, products, and services. Students will advocate for healthy families and communities.

At the kindergarten through sixth grade levels, the curriculum of choice in the Jamestown Schools is the Growing Healthy program.
