Adult Education Program

The Adult Education Program of Jamestown Public Schools offers Fall & Spring Semester Classes each school year, with classes usually beginning in September and January.

There are a wide variety of classes offered each term including:

GED-preparation for High School equivalency exam
Daytime ESL
Adult Basic Education
Spanish - Beginners Conversational
Computer Applications - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Decoy/Bird Carving
Knitting
Crocheting
Quilting
Floral Arranging
Feng Shui
Low Impact Aerobics and Strength Training
Line Dancing

Class offerings will vary depending upon teacher availability and demand. We try to offer new classes and to meet the needs of everyone, but we need to have at least 10 people in order to run the class.

Registration is held Monday through Friday, in January and September of each year at the Adult Education Office which is now located at the Technology Academy, 200 East Fourth Street, Jamestown, NY 14701. You may also call the Adult Education Office at 716/483-4384 to register by phone.

Please note - the following classes are offered on a continuing basis:

  • Adult Basic Education - This class is for those adults who read below the eighth grade level and who would like to improve their skills. The program helps adults improve their reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic.

  • GED-Preparation for High School Equivalency Examination - This course reviews the five areas covered in the high school equivalency examination which are writing skills, mathematics, social studies, science, and reading. Special emphasis will be placed in taking several typical equivalency examinations.

Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age and out of school for at least a year.

Call 716/483-4384 Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, for information on the GED Daytime Program or the Adult Basic Education Program.

English as a Second Language - This class is for the person with little or no training in English. Individuals learn to speak, write and read the English language. It gives prospective citizens an introduction to the English language. Classes are held Monday-Friday at Immanuel House (JNP), located at 532 East Second St., Jamestown, NY 14701.

These classes are offered at no charge, and you may register at any time.
