We currently use a Harcourt Math program. on this page I am listing the chapter headings and a brief description to indicate the concepts we will be looking at. Watch your child’s book bag for current math vocabulary and ideas to use at home! Chapter 1, Sorting and Classifying We will learn to sort objects that are alike in some way. Chapter 2, Patterns and Movement We will copy and extend patterns and make new ones. We will also explore left and right. Chapter 3, Matching and Counting We will learn to match groups of objects. We will learn to count each object. Chapter 4, Numbers 0-5 and Graphing We will study numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and match them to groups. We will compare two groups on a graph to find which has more or less. Chapter 5, Numbers 6-10 We will match numbers 6-10 with groups of objects and compare the groups to see which has more or less. Chapter 6, Geometry and Equal Parts We will learn to recognize and name geometric shapes and equal parts. chapter 7, Numbers 10-30 We will be learning about numbers to 30 and how to see these numbers on a ten frame. Chapter 8, Money We will learn to recognize and count pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Chapter 9, Measurement We will learn to measure how long and how tall objects are. We will compare how much different containers hold and how heavy different objects are. Chapter 10, Time We will learn to put things in order as first, next last, and first, second, third, fourth, fifth. We will learn about time being divided into hours, days, weeks, months, and seasons, and how a day is divided into morning afternoon and evening. Chapter 11, Exploring Addition We will learn how to add two numbers and find out how many in all. Chapter 12, Exploring Subtraction We will learn to subtract objects from a larger group of objects. We will learn to read subtraction sentences.
