Jamestown Public Schools Science Department
The science department of Jamestown Public Schools strives to educate students in grades K-12 with the most up to date teaching methods and materials. Our goal is to have every student reach his or her fullest potential within the department. Our staff of teachers strongly advocates a hands-on approach to science. When a student can actually touch and manipulate materials the learning becomes more permanent. This philosophy helps develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills that better prepare our students for institutions of higher education and technological jobs.
The study of science in the Jamestown Public schools will expose students to many different areas of science. Our elementary schools support science learning with BOCES kits that provide the needed materials for the hands-on experience. These kits vary from Guppies and Gold Fish in the first grade to Rocketry in the sixth. Middle school classes concentrate on Earth, Physical, and Life Sciences. Laboratory time becomes very important for these students. A wide variety of options are available for students at the High School. Students may take classes in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are also offered at the AP levels. The Science Department of Jamestown Public Schools will continue to offer a broad range of options for students to help them reach their goals for future achievement.
