HEALTH & ATTENDANCE CLERKS

There is more to the title of Health and Attendance (H&A) Clerk than the name implies. The main role as record-keeper has evolved into a diversified position of multiple responsibilities. With the integration of technology into the JPS system, Health and Attendance staff have had to develop computer data entry skills in daily job duties.

From the organizational perspective, the H&A role requires:

  • Accurate attendance records which is essential for State Aid accuracy
  • Positive interrelationship and communication skills as they are often the first encounter for
students, families, and others that have business within the school
  • Functioning as liaison between school and parents
  • First Aid and CPR training to cover the health office when nurse is unavailable
  • Secretarial skills to cover the main office when the secretary is unavailable
  • Coordination of traffic in and out of offices throughout the course of the day
  • Committee participation (e.g. Shared Decision Making Committee, Crisis Team) as they
are part of a bigger picture
