Welcome to Jamestown City School District’s world of finance. I think the easiest way to give you insight into the financial side of the District is by providing several informational facts:


INFORMATIONAL FACTS:

• District employs approximately 1000 people comprised of teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, principals, clerical staff, cleaning staff, food service staff and maintenance staff
• Pay bi-weekly paychecks to between 1100 – 1200 individuals (includes substitutes)
• Districts annual General Fund budget for 2008-09 totals $72,346,197
• Districts Federal Fund budget for 2008-09 totals over $9 million (changes frequently as new grants are approved and others expire)
• District’s Food Service Fund budget for 2008-09 is $2,685,500
• District owns $89,025,900 in fixed assets as of June 30, 2008 (net of depreciation)
• Approved capital projects in process total $59,000,000
• District’s short and long term debt as of June 30, 2008 totals $72,698,650
• District incorporates all of the City of Jamestown and portions of the Town’s of Kiantone, Busti, Ellicott and Carroll
• We are the second largest employer in the City of Jamestown
• District receives approximately 75% of our General Fund revenues from the State
• Full valuation using State Equalization Rates for 2008-09 is $748,122,933
• Districts final tax levy for 2008-09 was $13,944,132 of which STAR offsets $4,261,541 of this amount – net tax levy is $9,682,591
• District has diligently tried to conserve energy and track the savings – since September 2005 we have saved $731,819 which equates to 45.4 billion BTU’s or 3,312 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This equates to 594 passenger cars not driven for one year or 84,704 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
• District owns and maintains a bus fleet of 46 buses
