Sue McCaslin,

I.S. Department Secretary

I have worked for Jamestown Public Schools for 17 years. Prior to that, I worked for what now is Chase Manhattan Bank, also for 17 years, where I started as a bank teller, worked my way up to safe deposit vault clerk, secretary to the Executive Vice President, and, finally, secretary to the Financial Services Department.

After a massive reorganization in 1990 affecting about 40 people locally, I found myself unemployed. I took a Civil Service test and five months later, in April of 1991, was fortunate enough to be hired as a typist in the A-V Department at JHS.

Since that time, I have worked as secretary to the Assistant Superintendent at the Administration Building, then back to JHS as a secretary in the Assistant Principals’ Office, and now I’ve come full circle and am Department Secretary in the Information Services Office (formerly A-V where I started).

Information Services is totally different from A-V which it evolved from. This is a very busy office consisting of 10 employees. We still handle a minimum of A-V requests but primarily deal with all computer and technological needs for the entire school district.

Besides making everyone feel welcome and directing calls and walk-ins to the appropriate people, my job consists of typing up work order requests, maintaining a database of incoming and outgoing equipment, and setting up and organizing tech classes throughout the year ( including summer) to faculty and staff.

I feel very fortunate to work in such a friendly atmosphere. We are all like family, have fun, but also are hardworking and do our best to get the job done.
